The University of Iowa?s president, Sally Mason, said on Friday that the institution owed an apology to those affected by the actions of Peter Gray, an academic adviser in the university?s athletics department, who resigned last week after an internal inquiry found that he had a long history of sexual-harassment violations. In a written statement, Ms. Mason said Mr. Gray?s alleged actions were the result of an ?isolated breakdown? in a system designed to protect athletes and university employees. The university outlined changes it plans to make in the wake of Mr. Gray?s resignation, including conducting reviews of the university?s hiring practices and its advising services for athletes.
