The Knights' late-inning rally fell short Saturday against Columbia. The game ended with Ryan Breen stranded on second base after a leadoff single in the ninth inning.?

Columbia (2-7) outscored UCF (12-8) 5-4 in the second game of the four game series.

The Knights starting pitcher Danny Davis gave up two runs in the first inning and was relieved by senior Chris Matulis after two innings of work.

?I thought Chris Matulis was the highlight of the game. Matulis did his job and it kind of turned the momentum around. He put up some zeros and gave us a chance, but we didn't score until late in the game,? head coach Terry Rooney said.

Matulis held off the Lions until the seventh inning, where they managed to score two additional runs.

The Knights bats struggled for most of the game. James Vasquez had a good night as he went 4-for-4 and scored a run. Ryan Breen, Chris Taladay and Parker Webster each had a hit, but the Knights needed more than that.

?Offensively, we didn't make adjustments quick enough. That is the story of the game once again,? Rooney said. ?From our standpoint you have to be able to make adjustments. It?s very disappointing that we didn't do it. We have to rise up and bounce back tomorrow.?

The third match between the two teams will start at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Jay Bergman Field.?
